Available Courses

ENGL 101 - Reading and Composition (SENIORS ONLY) 4 Units (CSU and UC transferable / CHS English credits)

A college-level composition course emphasizing exposition, analysis, argument, and research techniques. Extensive writing practice based upon reading selections of culturally diverse fiction and non-fiction.

ENGL 216 - American Latino Literature 3 Units (CSU and UC transferable / CHS Elective credits)

The study of American Latino literature emphasizing the development of literary expression within the Latino community specifically in the mediums of poetry, short stories, and novels. The course will explore literature within the context of the Latino culture and examine the impact the works have had on the Latino and literary community.

ENGL 243 - African American Literature 3 Units (CSU and UC transferable / CHS Elective credits)

This course is designed to give students an appreciation of African American Literature--and in particular--the expression within the African American Community in the mediums of poetry, short stories, and novels. The course will explore literature and will examine the impact the works have had on the African American and literary community. The relationship between identity and the creative work of prominent African American writers is explored, as well as the cultural and historical influences on such writers.

ART 110 - Introduction to the Visual Arts 3 Units (CSU and UC transferable / CHS Fine Art credits)

A course designed to further the general education of all students. Students will be introduced to the visual arts through aesthetics, critique, history, and by creating art using various mediums.

ART 199 - Motion Picture Appreciation 3 Units (CSU and UC transferable / CHS Fine Art credits)

An introductory course in which the student will learn how to analyze films on technical, aesthetic, and thematic levels. Historically significant films will be used as source material.

COUN 120 - Managing Stress & Anxiety for Emotional Well-Being 3 Units (CSU and UC transferable / CHS Elective credits)

This course is designed to increase awareness of the effects of stress and anxiety on academic performance and emotional well-being as it relates to college student success. Using a positive psychology perspective, students will explore and develop a variety of practical coping skills and techniques that they can apply in daily life. This includes how to recognize signs of burnout in order to make healthier lifestyle choices, manage emotions, and utilize campus resources for stress reduction and management. Other topics include prevention and management of stressors that are unique to the college experience such as time management, test anxiety, finances, work/life balance, motivation, perfectionism, social stressors, major/career exploration, self-esteem, and interpersonal relationship/family dynamics.

COUN 207 - Pathways to Careers in Business and Information Technology/Systems 3 Units (CSU transferable / CHS Elective credits)

This course will introduce students to the main components of identifying a major in business/information technology. Career fields include, but are not limited to, management, marketing, sales, real estate, banking, finance, human resources, database administration, and computer support for business organizations. Through self-assessment students will explore their work interests, personality, skills, values, strengths, and life goals in order to find purpose in their academic curriculum. This course will include career planning, occupational research, and decision-making to formulate a real-world perspective on the local and national opportunities in these fields and the requirements needed to achieve them. Students also gain job search, networking, and interview skills in preparation for an internship search, as well as how to research job trends, salary, employment projections, and educational requirements.

MATH 160 - Mathematics for Everyday Living - A Liberal Arts Course 5 Units (CSU and UC transferable / CHS Math credits)

A course in mathematical concepts for the liberal arts student. Topics include critical thinking, approaches to problem solving, numbers in the real world, financial management, statistical reasoning, probability, and applications of exponential growth and decay.

MATH 165 - Introductory Statistics 4 Units (CSU and UC transferable / CHS Math credits )

Introductory course to statistics and probability, descriptive analysis, and presentation of data, hypothesis testing, statistical inference, normal curve, chi square, and applications in diverse disciplines.

MUSE 113 - History of Rock and Roll 3 Units (CSU and UC transferable / CHS Fine Art credits)

This course focuses on the rock musician, the music and the manner in which sociological, political, and economic conditions merged in the evolution of this art form. Listening and classroom discussion will be stressed.

HIST 139 - History of California 3 Units (CSU transferable / CHS Elective credits)

A survey of the political, social and economic development of the State of California from early Pre-Columbian American Indian communities and Spanish settlements to the present.

HIST 160 - History of Women in the United States 3 Units (CSU transferable / CHS Elective credits)

This course will introduce students to the major themes in American women's history, addressing topics that include pre-contact and colonial experiences, cross-cultural interactions, enslavement, family and gender roles, sexuality, work, and political activism.

 **All courses are available to Juniors and Seniors ONLY unless otherwise noted. Priority is given to seniors. Placement in courses is dependent on availability.

Who issues the creidts?

The CHS Dual Enrollment Program is a partnership with Citurs College. Students will earn high school credits (10 credits per class) and transferable units (amount varies by class) at Citrus College. Students can submit their Citrus College transcript by contact Citrus College Admissions and Records.

WEIGHTED COURSES!  Dual Enrollment courses are weighted in the CHS GPA.

How to Sign-up for Dual Enrollment

Students can sign-up for dual enrollment courses through their counselor during course selection meetings.

Students selecting dual enrollment courses will need to complete a Citrus application and all associated paperwork. CHS counselors and Citrus Representatives will assist students in this process.
